I’m New

Whether you have attended church your whole life or are visiting for the first time, we are happy to have you here. We want you to know that no matter what you’re carrying in life, you are welcome at Lakepoint.

We want everyone who enters the doors to know that they are loved and wanted, and we look forward to meeting you!

Questions?

What do I wear?

We are not a dress-code church. Because we want you to be comfortable and feel at home, we leave clothing choices up to your discretion. Jeans, tennis shoes, t-shirts, sweatshirts, and other casual clothing are common and accepted. Some people choose to wear dresses or button-up shirts, but again it is your decision.

What should I expect?

Because you are coming in with your own perspective, and background, you will likely have a different experience than the person next to you. But, our goal for every interaction is that you would feel welcomed, loved, and seen.

We also recognize that Jesus would challenge His disciples to live set apart from society. With this said, we work to keep one another accountable to living a life worthy of the Gospel of Christ through (you guessed it) loving God and loving people.

I just made a decision to follow Christ. What do I do now?

First off, we want to celebrate the decision you have just made. We are so excited for you, and we want to walk alongside you as you pursue Him! Knowing what this new faith means for your life can be challenging, so we have written out some steps you can take (see below).

Who do I talk to about getting baptized?

We are so happy you are considering baptism! That’s an important step in your walk with Jesus and we would love to help you! Please contact us via the Contact tab on our website or drop a Welcome Card with your contact information in the basket at church on Sunday and someone will contact you.

What about children?

We have separate classes for different age groups from birth through elementary as well as youth group for middle school students. High schoolers are encouraged to join the adults in main service on Sunday mornings and have an evening service just for them at our HS youth directors’ house.

How do I get involved?

There are plenty of opportunities to get connected at Lakepoint. If you like shaking hands and smiling, the greeting team might be a good fit. If you want to roll up your sleeves and help with more physical tasks, the set-up or tear-down team could be for you. If you have a particular skill-set in music or a heart for a particular age group, we can get you in touch with our worship team or ministry leaders (children, youth, women, men, outreach). There is a place and an opportunity for everyone at Lakepoint to impact lives for the Kingdom of God. Contact us today for more information.

Now What?

Next Steps

If you’ve recently given your life to Jesus Christ, the Bible says you are a new creation. You have been born again. Just as a newborn baby comes into the world and needs nourishment to thrive, such is the case with your spiritual birth—you need spiritual sustenance.

The following four steps, prayer, study, fellowship, and sharing, will help you establish a lifestyle that allows Jesus to guide and direct your new life in Him. As you begin to explore these things, God’s plan for you will begin to unfold.

Congratulations and welcome to God’s family!

Four Steps

What does that look like?

Prayer

Talking to God

Prayer is the biblical word for talking to God. Prayer is communication between you (a child of God) and your heavenly Father (God).

Prayer does not have to be in King James English in order for God to understand you (“Father, thou hast madest me a blessed man.”). No, God created you as you are, and He wants to spend time communicating with you, His child.

Go ahead and thank Him for the beautiful day. Ask Him for guidance in difficult circumstances. Most important, ask Him to give you strength and wisdom to live a life that pleases Him.

As you open your Bible each day, ask Jesus to open your eyes and heart to see and hear what His Spirit says to you.

Scriptures to read: 1 Thessalonians 5:1718; Philippians 4:67; Psalm 34:18; Luke 18:1

Study

Getting to Know God

The Bible says in 1 Peter 2:2 (NKJV): . . . as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word [the Bible], that you may grow thereby . . . . How would you feel if you had not eaten anything for three days? You would feel like passing out!

With spiritual nourishment, the principle is the same. When you go days on end without reading the Bible and spending time with Jesus, you are spiritually starving. But when you spend time with Jesus daily, you begin to strengthen your soul and grow according to God’s plan for your life.

If you are unsure of where to start, we have reading plans available through our app and also highly recommend Life Journals which are available on Sunday mornings at the connect center.

Before going to sleep each night, ask yourself, “Did I learn something new about Jesus today? What promise did Jesus reveal to me today? How have I become more like Jesus today?

Scriptures to read: 2 Timothy 2:15; Psalm 1:13; Psalm 119:916; Ephesians 6:17; Hebrews 4:12

Fellowship

Being with Believers

Fellowship is just a fancy word that simply means to hang around or interact with other believers.

To illustrate this, let’s picture a barbecue with red, glowing charcoal briquettes. If you reach in with tongs and remove one of those little briquettes, setting it apart from the others, what will happen? It will go out! It will get cold!

But if you take that same briquette and place it back into the fire with the others, what will happen? Once again, it will take on the same characteristics of the other briquettes.

So it is with the Christian walk. If you surround yourself with other Christians and begin to share and pray together, you will not grow “cold” in your walk with Christ.

Scriptures to read: Acts 2:4247; Philippians 2:14; Ephesians 5:1921; 1 John 1:57; Hebrews 10:2425

Sharing the Gospel

Telling others about Jesus

When you begin living your life according to the first three principles above, you will be noticeably different. Those who know you will be able to see a change in your life.

Witnessing, or sharing your faith, is simply telling others what Jesus has done to bring about that change.

In Mark 16:15 (NIV), Jesus says, “Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.” Share what Jesus has done in your life. Give others the same opportunity you were given to live for eternity with Jesus Christ in heaven.

Scriptures to read: Acts 1:8; Matthew 5:1416; Ephesians 6:19; Acts 4:1321; Acts 10:4243

As a New Believer…

As you establish these four vital principles early in your Christian walk, you will become a strong disciple of Jesus Christ and you will live a fruitful, victorious Christian life. You will never regret this decision.

Just Let God Be In Control

We are called by God to “. . . love the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways, to keep His commands, to hold fast to Him, and to serve Him with all your heart and with all your soul” (Joshua 22:5 NKJV).

If you’ve recently made a decision to accept Christ as your Savior we’d love to hear from you!  Let us support you in prayer as you take this new journey.  Please contact us HERE to share your decision with us.
